Sacred Parenting Tips

  • When kids have a boo-boo:
    • Let’s say Ya Shafi Ya Allah, Ya Shafi Ya Allah.
    • God will heal it insha’Allah.
    • We learned that we need to be careful when doing this….
  • When birds are singing:
    • The birds are praising God (tasbih), masha’allah!
  • When she gets a gift:
    • Alhamdulillah, God loves you…
    • Your friend made you happy by giving you this gift, Alhamdulillah.
    • You can make your friends happy by giving them gifts too insha’allah.
  • When waiting for someone to arrive:
    • Insha’allah, he will be here soon.
  • When she/we sneeze:
    • Alhamdulillah for our health…
  • When she has Islamic school:
    • We cannot go shopping now, because you will learn about God, insha’llah J!
      • If we easily cancel Islamic school for other activities, our kid learns that it is low on our priority/importance list…
  • When she is sick:
    • Insha’allah, God will heal you quickly.
    • Let’s pray together: God, please heal me…
      • If she asks: why does God give illness?
        • He gives illness so we understand the value of our health, and be happier when we are healthy, and thank him for giving us health.
  • When she questions why she has to obey you:
    • God loves you. He wants the best for you. He wants you to be happy.
    • God trusted you to us (gave you as a trust). We try our best to make you happy.
    • We try our best to obey what God says because that is what makes us the happiestJ!
  • When you make a mistake (yell at her or someone else, fail to keep your promise, say something mean, etc.):
    • I am very sorry that I made this mistake. I apologize.
    • Insha’allah I pray that God helps me to always do the right thing.
  • When parents bicker:
    • We are sorry that we are not being nice. This is wrong. We apologize.
  • When she questions why other people don’t do what we do (i.e. dress revealing):
    • They either don’t know or forgot that God loves us a lot and what he says makes us the happiest J!
  • When she is scared of the dark/storm:
    • God always protects you.
    • Let’s say our prayers: God please protect me… I love you.
  • When you forget to do something:
    • See I forget. God please always remind me to do x, y, z…
  • When she says something bad about a friend:
    • If Aisha heard what you said about her, she would be upset.
    • So please only tell me the good things that Aisha does.
    • If she does something bad, please whisper to Aisha’s ear softly: please do not do that, it breaks my heart and it is not nice. I love you.
  • When she does a good deed:
    • Masha’allah!!! You helped your friend. That is very nice.
    • See when you do good deeds, you become happier.
    • That’s why God tells us to do these good deeds…
